COOP: BAR RAISED FOR
GROCERY SHOP DESIGN
In cooperation with COOP and British agency CADA Design, Expedit has developed Denmark's presumably most posh food store.
With an entry on the Canadian chart 25 Grocery Stores To Visit Before You Die, articles in tons of international design magazines and a World Retail Awards nomination, clearly, with their flagship store, MAD Cooperativet at Copenhagen's historic Grand Central Station, COOP is aiming at the stars.
COOP wants to refine the Danes' food culture, and the store at Denmark's busiest railway station is their lever. Located in the former 1st class travelers' waiting room, the shop design sets the perfect stage for the grocery store's dedicated focus on quality foods and exquisite shopping experiences.
INSPIRATIONAL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE
A shopping experience heavily inspired by big market places with raw materials and ingredients from around the world. A food square with coffee shop and specialties that inspire visitors to discover an inspiring food universe and try out new things. And by the way, we need to make room for a live TV studio. This was the grand vision when COOP launched its ambitious store concept.
AESTHETIC STORE DESIGN
Shelves, racks, crates, displays - All retail items and sections for product display and signage are closely aligned with the listed building’s classical architecture with vaulted ceiling, tall columns and tiled walls. Innovation and high ambitions have carried the project all the way from ideation to the final assembly with attention to aesthetics and craftsmanship.

AS SEEN ON TV
There is hardly a Danish store more heavily shown on TV than MAD Cooperativet. Danish national broadcast station TV 2 ran several seasons of a cooking show live broadcast from the store with Expedit's custom made counter serving as visual anchor point. Rustic and industrial materials combined with spectacular lighting have resulted in an impressive world-class store solution.
