POP-UP STORE
SUBARU THINKS INTO THE BOX
Expedit develops mobile shop concept for Japanese Subaru, meeting their offroad customers where they are: The great outdoors
MOBILE SHOWROOM PAYS OFF
If the mountain won’t come to Subaru, then Subaru must go to the mountain. Or, rather, the fjell, as they call it in Norway. In all its simplicity, this was the idea behind the pop-up store concept developed by Expedit Norway.
For several years, we have designed and fitted many of Subaru’s brick and mortar stores in Norway - from sales floors to lounge areas. We also worked out a design manual defining the shop design of future store launches to ensure a consistent look and feel across stores of different sizes.
When the car importer were to run a campaign on their all-wheel drive models, we suggested an unconventional approach in order to reach out to customers who are not prone to visiting car dealers.
With a rough and impassable nature stretching over 2,000 km north to south, the Norwegian conditions are perfect for Subaru’s all-wheel drive models. For that very reason, this is exactly where Subaru wants to meet its customers: In Outback Norway, where the need for off-road vehicles is real. The pop-up store was the perfect solution to Subarus's aim to engage with potential customers.
The formula is simple: Take a 20ft container. Modify it to open with wings on the side instead of opening at the end. Use the wings for framing the visitor area while they double as billboards for campaign signage. Install glass sliding doors and fit with transportation/temperature/ and condensation-proof furniture and add power, heat, bar, fridge, flooring, light, flat screen and replaceable wall foil. And you're good to go.
“WE SAW AN INCREASED INTEREST WHICH IS A DIRECT EFFECT OF BEING OUT THERE WHERE OUR CUSTOMERS ARE”
Torbjørn Lie, CEO, Subaru Norway
Expedit's pop-up store solution brings Subaru’s DNA to their customers. With a customer base spread across a large geographic area, the benefits of a mobile pop-up shop are obvious. Mobility means branding right where it’s needed. In the city center, in the fjells, at outdoor events and auto shows.
Subaru has succeeded getting in touch with an offroad segment by meeting them at Norway's ski resorts. After having been around the country for more than a year, the effect is indisputable: Expedit’s solution has quite tangibly increased the number of test drive bookings of the car models promoted through the pop-up shop.
